Easy to follow bread recipe
Servings: 1 loaf
Garlic, buttery, no need to add anything to it bread. Great to accompany soup, meats, some sausages, or egg, or really anytime you want to whip up a fresh loaf of bread.
We like garlic, so I've added it to the recipe
If you aren't a fan - Don't add it and it becomes a still delicious french loaf type of loaf.
Print RecipeIngredients
- 1.5 Cups Warm Water I use hottish* water and let the bowl rest in the sink with hot water - Our kitchen is relatively cold
- 1 Tablespoon Dry active Yeast
- 1 Tablespoon Honey *If the water is too cold, the honey won't mix
- 1 teaspoon Salt *This won't dissolve either
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder **Optional
- 3.5 - 4.5 Cups Flour
- 2 cloves garlic finely chopped
- 1.5 teaspoons Oregano
Instructions
- In the mixing bowl you're going to use with your electric mixer - Stir together the hot water, honey, salt and garlic powder, till the honey is melted and you have no granules left
- Add in the yeast & hand whisk it till the yeast is all mixed. Only a few seconds it'll be bubbly and start activated the yeast. This is when I put the bowl into the kitchen basin filled with hot water Leave it in here for about 20min It should be nice and foamy
- Remove from the basin add 3 cups of flour Using the dough hooks mix until will combined and add in half cup increments When the dough starts coming together well, knead with the electric mixer for about 7min Scrap down the sides as it mixes You'll have a smooth looking dough that should feel spongy to the touch. Test it by pressing down on it. Don't poke it! It can be a little sticky, this is ok.
- Turn out onto a floured bench and with floured hands kneed it about another minute - It should beef smooth and easy to work with form a loaf shape and place onto an oiled baking tray, I use garlic infused oil (We really like garlic) Preheat oven to 200°C Cover and leave in a warm spot for about ~15-20min It should be double in size now and your oven should be hot
- Cut a few diagonal lines across the bread till about half way in Melt some butter and add fresh garlic and oregano Brush it with this mix and bake for 20min It should be golden brown and soft on the inside.
- Enjoy
Notes
The warmer the area you leave the dough, the more it will rise You can add your own flavours, try smoked paprika, thyme & cheese... Let me know how you go 🙂 SaltedYeti
